Sometimes we do some things knowing full well it doesn’t make sense. It is in those moments we tell ourselves, I am doing this for me. I enjoy it. I admire it. I like it. So, I do it. We say it with such adamancy and grit. It is because as women, we want to have power, authority and control over the smallest of things.
Women, from the beginning of time, have been reviled, suppressed and sidelined because of this very innate trait of ours. We are powerful beings. We are not just emotionally tough but are mentally and spiritually too.
We will encounter insecure people who may discredit us for what we bring to the table. They will use the adage tactics of ridicule, sexism and ill-treatment. They will call us names mocking our strong-headedness as being demanding, determined and opinionated. If such qualities are deplorable, then why is it okay for men to be all that? And, why do women have to put up with all that? That is, up until now!
Isn’t it disconcerting that the rules are different because we are women? Well, well, well, women have found their voice. Hallelujah! And, let the men in your lives and in the world know that we are no more lip tied little girls in plaid skirts, shy of having a say or timid to voice our intent. If need be, we will scream from mountain tops, for we owe it to ourselves and the women who have gone before us.
It is not only our right but our responsibility to shoulder the freedom given to us for the prosperity and posterity of our race. Any time anyone attempts to damage your self-esteem, mar your reputation or impede your progress, do not succumb. Fight for what is rightfully yours, no matter the cost. The ground we stand on is a graveyard of all the women who were victimised by sex abuse, violence, hatred and misogyny.
They fought their fight passing on the baton of hope, yearning, praying and dreaming of change. Remember their everyday wars, let it fuel you to do your part to change the world. We now tread on the same ground that they walked once, and thus are we tied together by the perpetual bond of sisterhood. Now the world shall see women for who she is. She is fire. She is power. She is a woman!
